Program Information

Do you have a child who is carrying excess weight? Would you like support to help you and your child make healthy lifestyle changes? Through the YMCA’s Evidence-Based Healthy Weight & Your Child Program, you’ll join a supportive group of families facing similar challenges. This program offers expert guidance to help your family build healthier habits through improved nutrition, increased physical activity, and more awareness—all in a fun and engaging environment.

Studies show that this program is cost-efficient and effective in reducing a child’s BMI, waist circumference, and sedentary behaviors—while boosting physical activity and self-esteem.

This is a 13-week program. Each class is 2 hours long. Before registering, families must attend an information session or contact us to see if their child qualifies for the program.

Upcoming Sessions

We’re currently accepting referrals and registrations for Fall 2025 classes starting September 8
Classes will be held Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30–7:30 PM

Required Information Session

Caregivers must attend one of the following sessions before enrolling:
• August 25 at 5:30 PM
• September 4 at 5:30 PM

During this time, caregivers will meet program leaders, learn how the program works, complete and sign enrollment forms.

Families must also schedule a time with our Program Coordinator for a brief pre-program meeting. Both the caregiver and child will attend to go over details, ask questions, and have the child’s height and weight collected for baseline data.

To Qualify

Child must be 7-13 years old

Child must carry excess weight, with a body mass index of the 95th percentile or higher

Child must receive clearance from a healthcare provider or school nurse to participate in physical activity

Adult MUST attend all sessions with child
